Since late 2023, there has been a rapid increase in measles cases across England. Our technical team have put together some best practice information to help with disinfection and good hygiene.


Measles is an infection that spreads very easily and can cause serious problems in some people. Initial symptoms are a fever, cough, runny nose and inflamed eyes, followed by a rash a few days later. Some people may also get small spots in their mouth. 

How is measles spread?

Measles is an air borne disease which spreads from person to person through coughs and sneezes of infected people. It may also be passed via direct contact via the mouth or nasal secretions. Individuals should be encouraged to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when they cough and sneeze and to wash or sanitise hands after sneezing and after using or disposing of tissues.

Disinfection procedures

Surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected as part of a normal cleaning routine, particular attention should be paid to door handles and high touch surfaces such as door plates. Good hand hygiene is essential and can be achieved with the use of our antibacterial hand soap.
